"Scotland, PA" - MacBeth as McDonalds?

Title

"Scotland, PA" - MacBeth as McDonalds?

Subject

Scotland, PA, USA

Description

Is it possible to stage Macbeth, a political tragedy set in 11th century Scotland, as a dark comedy set in a 70’s American burger joint?
Yes.
But should you?
Maybe not, but the cast and crew of Scotland, PA did it anyway.
Scotland, PA (2001) is just as wonderful and terrible an idea as it seems. This 104-minute fever dream follows McBeth (“Mac” for short) and his wife, both disgruntled workers at Duncan’s Cafe who plot to seize control of the restaurant after receiving visions of the future from three local witches (stoners).
